Hourglass, pear, rectangle, triangle… or as Nelly used to sing “apple bottom jeans, boots with the fuuuur.” Whatever your body shape is, it means absolutely nothing and I’ll tell you why!
“Girl, that outfit looks good on you. It must be because of your pear shape figure”
LIES! It looks fabulous because I’m fabulous and whatever I wear, I slay with confidence.
I’m not saying body shapes don’t exist.
The issue I have is with the categorization of the female body. Even worse, that it is based on fruits and inanimate objects.
Why don’t men get categorized into a pear, apple or square?
So many women are already being segregated in the fashion industry because of their size,
why should we let this slide, too?
One of the biggest struggles I have found as a plus-size woman is finding appropriately-fitting clothing that matches the selection offered to the regular sizing ranges.
Each season, fashion designers come out with new daring collections, some of which go against the grain.
But when we look at what is on offer to plus-sizes, it’s always frumpy and baggy as if our, supposed, body shape is TRASHBAG.
If we are going with the premise that different body shapes based on fruits and inanimate objects exist,
WHY DON’T PLUS-SIZE WOMEN HAVE THESE OPTIONS, TOO?
Why should we box our style based off of what a group of individuals deem appropriate to wear?
Let us end the labelling and division!
You are not a pear or an apple or an hourglass.
You have a female body made out of flesh and bones.
Embrace it and wear what you deem appropriate.
Wear what you feel comfortable in, what highlights your inner and outer beauty!
Do you agree? What are your thoughts on the connection between body shapes and style?
