POETRY POSITIVITY

BODY POSITIVITY CONFIDENCE | POETRY | SASS AND CURVE

I’ve always been a writer. Short stories, essays, news stories,  the start of one too many novels… But the one thing I’ve always been scared to write is poetry

Poetry has so much emotion. It can show so much pain, sadness, love, courage. Poetry is raw. And it isn’t for the faint-hearted.

But we all need to learn to open up, strive for more emotion. Even put it down on paper. So I decided to give it a go.

I’ve gone and written a number of short poems that touch on the individual struggle for perfection, human resilience and learning that importance of self-love.

I am by no means a professional, so feel free to share your thoughts and feelings.

I found the poetry process so cathartic. Emptying out my soul full of thoughts and feelings on paper. Releasing stress.

MIRROR MIRROR

Mirror mirror
Why do they want to change me?
Why don’t they just accept me?
Do my curves make them uncomfortable?
Do my stretch marks repulse them?

Why do they want me to be perfect?
What even is perfect?
Should I lose myself for the acceptance of others?
Why won’t they let me be?

Mirror Mirror
I’m losing myself
I just want to be me.

WAITING

No longer will I wait
Wait for your attention
Wait for your acceptance
Wait for your love

No longer will I wait
Wait to feel that kind of love
Wait to be yours
Wait to be in your world

I no longer wait

I have waited long enough.

I AM

I am worth more than your attention
I am happy on my own
I am aware of who I am
I have broken down those walls

I am my best friend
I am my saviour
I am me.
I love me.
And my own love is all I need.

THE SEARCH

She searched for someone…
To save her
To protect her
To make her feel
Beautiful
Worthy
Special

But one morning,
she stopped searching
For she was all that and so much more.

FREE

Free is a privilege
Letting go of the pressure and hate
Embracing who I am, who I will be

Free to embrace the person I am today
The body that keeps me alive

Free to accept change
My curves will move
My face will wrinkle
But my heart will stay the same

Free is now.
I am happy to be free.
